Corporate sustainability in Canadian and US maritime ports

Mehrnaz Ashrafi, Michele Acciaro, Tony Walker, Gregor Magnan, and Michelle Adams. “Corporate Sustainability in Canadian and US Maritime Ports.” Journal of Cleaner Production. 220. (2019): 386-397.

This paper examines the current state of corporate sustainability in relation to maritime ports located in Canada and the US, primarily examining the motivations, implementation, scope, and stakeholders associated with sustainability initiatives. The findings of this research are twofold. First, while corporate sustainability is regarded as important in the majority of ports, it is not fully integrated into strategic decision-making processes and operations. Second, clear sustainability goals that can be intertwined with common business practices are the most likely to be successful.
