This paper exmaines the fiscal benefits of the EU’s emission trading system could have for research and development on the European oil shipping industry. The paper finds that the ETS could generate 0.3-1.4 billion USD per year and even a low price on emissions could provide sufficient incentives to upscale abatement measures.
